Residential Roof Replacement

Image

Residential roofs take a beating day after day.

Weather, water, wind, sun, and even falling debris can all damage your roof.

Insulation can break down, supports can weaken, and leaks can cause havoc, but how do you know if an issue can be repaired or if it’s time for a whole new roof?

Key Indicators Your Roof Needs Hercules Roofing

Some indications that your roof may need repair or replacement by a residential roof contractor:

  • Shingle tabs are cupped, bald, torn or cracked
  • Shingle edges are curled
  • Your roof is at least 20 years old
  • Your roof looks worn
  • You have dark, greenish streaks (algae) or moss growing on it.
  • You have an excessive amount of shingle granules in the gutters
  • You can see blistering, buckling or rotting
  • The roof deck is sagging
  • There are signs of water damage
  • Your roof is leaking
  • You have dark spots and trails
  • Outside light is showing through the roof

Residential Roofing Costs

Depending on the age of your roof, the existing material, and the reason for the repair, a partial re-roofing can be an option, but beware of being “penny-wise and pound foolish.” A partial re-roofing may save you money on materials, but it may cost more in the long run.

Contact Hercules Roofing for a residential roof replacement estimate to determine how much it should cost to replace your roof.

Steep Slope Roof Components

Every steep slope roof has five components:

  • Shingles, tile, slate or metal and the underlayment that protects the sheathing from weather
  • Sheathing (the boards attached to the rafters that cover the house)
  • Rafters and trusses to support the sheathing
  • Flashing used at the joints to prevent leaks
  • The ability of the roof to shed water

With a partial re-roofing, you may end up fixing problems only detected in the top layers of the roofing system. Problems with the sheathing or underlayment may go undetected and cause larger issues later. Also, when you replace just a portion of the roof, you run the risk of not being able to match the new and old color lot of tiles and other materials.
